Costa Mesa, CA -- Prior to when most other states had not considered equipping patrol cars with in-car cameras, in 1997 the City of Costa Mesa, California Police Department was ahead of the curve.
Later in 2000, the Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) created the In-Car Camera Incentive Program. The program provided financial aid to state police and highway patrol agencies for the sole purpose of purchasing and installing in-car camera systems. The first federal awards were dispersed in 2000, and, by the end of 2003, 47 states and the District of Columbia had received a total of more than 21 million dollars in federal assistance for the purchase of in-car cameras.
Prior to the COPS Office In-Car Camera Incentive Program, 11 percent of the state police and highway patrol vehicles were equipped with in-car cameras. By 2004, 72 percent of the state police and highway patrol vehicles used for patrol were equipped with video systems, and this number has continued to increase. In the early inception, during a three-year span, the number of in-car camera systems grew from 3,400 to 17,500. Twenty-five percent (4,500) of the in-car camera systems were purchased through the COPS Office incentive program.
In May 1997 P.A.’s President, Sherita Herring, served on the Law Enforcement Block Grant Committee to aid in securing in-car cameras for the Costa Mesa Police Department.

Belize -- By founding the Advanced Integrated Medicine & Surgery Foundation (AIMS-F) along with his wife and partner, Dr. Alice Pien Milgrom, Dr. Asher Milgrom’s ultimate purpose is to also address the immediate needs that are lacking in health care for disadvantaged populations, with our initial strategies being executed in Belize.

The United States makes up just five percent of the world's population, but incarcerates 25 percent of the world's prisoners. In the U.S., there are nearly $1.6 million in state and federal U.S. prisons, according to the Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS).
In addition, the recidivism (return to prison) rate is extremely high. It’s reported that Inmates who break the law repeatedly can spend years going in and out of the system. Recent studies found that 67.8% of former state prisoners who were released in 2005, were re-arrested within three years, according to The Daily Beast. That figure shot up to 76.6% when considering those who were re-arrested within five years of their release.
Even with the above grim statistics, our President, Sherita Herring, successfully reduced the recidivism rate at the California Institution for Men (Chino), one of the largest prisons in the world, housing over 6,000. Working directly with the prisoners, Ms. Herring volunteered at the prison for 1½ years (2001-2002), providing male inmates with the skill sets to make positive and productive changes in their lives. The Prison 2 Prosperity (P2P) Project provided life-skills and job readiness training to better equip the men for employment procurement and job sustainability.
Because of the success of the program, the Chaplain at the prison wrote, “The feedback has been very positive. In addition, we have received contacts from inmates who have since paroled, expressing how the program has aided in their transition back to society.” Kreative is an invaluable service to CIM and the State of California.”
Motivating The Masses offers small business owners, managers and entrepreneurs a reliable, high-quality resource for business coaching and professional and management development on both a local and national scale. Its mission is to help clients develop the strategy, motivation and accountability required to succeed in their business and personal lives.
Projected to create over 300 jobs in the Watts community, on March 16, 2014, dozens gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new industrial building in Watts, the first such project for the South L.A. community in more than 40 years. The building, a project of Lanzit Industrial Park, LLC, will be about 46,000-square feet and house space for both offices and light manufacturing.
"Today we can rejoice with the knowledge that new jobs are coming to Watts," said Rodney Shepard, the South Los Angeles land developer leading the Lanzit project. "This development will bring economic security and good, stable, manufacturing jobs back here where they belong."
Attendees included Democratic Congresswoman Janice Hahn, and former L.A. City Councilwoman Jan Perry, each of whom has a vested interest in the economic health of the Watts Community.
This particular building marks the very first of many that will eventually make up the 175,000 square feet development.
The project was projected to be built on a vacant lot, abandoned for more than 35 years to date.

Cambodia -- Books N Pillows (BNP) is an international nonprofit in South East Asia, Cambodia. Our mission is to empower orphans to become future entrepreneurs and break out of their poverty cycle. BNP provides shelter, education and medical assistance to the children and ultimately creates a platform so that they can become self-sustaining, financially independent, and equipped with marketable skills.

San Dimas, CA -- In addition to Rain Forest conservation, Planet Rehab (PR) seeks to provide informational forums to help others - especially children - understand the importance of developing strategies to preserve our planet.
PR’s environmental education programs involve youth groups such as girl scouts, boy scouts, 4-H clubs, school clubs and classes, junior garden clubs, church youth fellowships and many others. Lead by Gary Mitchell, the involved youth have the opportunity to participate in community service environmental projects such as litter control, recycling, beautification, tree planting, soil conservation, environmental education, and more.

In 2001 James K. Hahn became the 40th mayor of Los Angeles, a sprawling city at the center of the nation’s film and television industry, where he served until 2005.
Prior to his term as mayor, Hahn served in several other capacities for the city of Los Angeles, including deputy city attorney (1975–1979), city controller (1981–1985) and city attorney (1985–2001). Hahn is the only individual in the city's history to have been elected to all three citywide offices. He is currently a sitting judge on the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
In 2005, Sherita Herring was honored to receive an accommodation from Mayor Hahn for her outstanding work and dedication to Los Angeles’ 3.7 million residents.
Los Angeles, CA – African American History Art Exhibit (Evolution of the Revolution (ER)) at the California African American Museum (CAAM). The 6-month exhibition was an immersive, multi-media installation created by Surreal Box Cinema, an artistic duo formed by Lead Artist Lynn Rossi (photographer/set designer) and Nichelle Evans (set designer/conceptual artist).
Reaching beyond the walls and boarders, the artists, along with national and international collaborations, including the exhibition entryway being created by Crushow Herring, virtuoso artist (aka #SHOWZART); the exhibit also hosted youth workshops for set-design, murals, photography and more, while facilitating a series of webinars for adult artists and others, including an alliance with a Paris art exhibit, and speakers.
Working with the Lead Artist and CAAM Directors, P.A. President served as Exhibit Coordinator, while also designing the marketing strategy, and community outreach efforts for the youth workshops, program design, etc. (2016)
The goal for the GOTNI-USA African Leadership Conference was to create operational collaborative opportunities between the United States and Nigeria. To accomplish this, GOTNI-USA’s objective was to establish a “Triangle of Trust” with tangible strategies to achieve this Trans-Atlantic execution.
Held on July 9, 2017 in the Washington, DC area, this would prove to be advantageous for all, by creating outcomes for those that attended, thereby establishing linked relationships that lead to concrete deliverables.

San Diego, CA -- SAN DIEGO (AP) — November 12, 2011, Myrlie Evers, the widow of Medgar Evers, broke a bottle of champagne against the hull of a new Navy ship that was been named in honor of the slain civil rights leader. Myrlie Evers was among a thousand people who attended the christening of the USNS Medgar Evers in San Diego. Medgar Evers, a World War II veteran and field secretary for the NAACP, was shot to death in 1963.
Naval officials, politicians, local citizens and members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People were on hand to hear a speech honoring Evers by Ray Mabus, the Secretary of the Navy.
The 689-foot cargo delivers food, ammunition, fuel and other provisions to Navy combat ships at sea. The vessel was built in San Diego by General Dynamics NASSCO.

He has starred in his own sitcom, All About the Andersons, as well as The Bernie Mac Show during its fifth and final season. He is known for his leading roles in drama series K-Ville, The Shield and as NYPD Detective Kevin Bernard on Law & Order. He has had major roles in feature films such as Me, Myself & Irene (2000), Kangaroo Jack (2003), Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London (2004), The Departed (2006), Transformers (2007), and Scream 4 (2011). Anderson is a regular judge on Food Network's Iron Chef America. Since September 2014, he has served as an executive producer and starred as Andre Johnson on the ABC sitcom Black-ish. As of June 2016, he has served as host of the ABC version of the game show To Tell the Truth. In addition, he has served as guest panelist for various game shows.
Until recent years, many were not aware how serious he also is about his health and combatting diabetes, in which he was diagnosed in 2002. Because of his interest in furthering his cause and educating about diabetes, while speaking to youth about combatting obesity, Anderson consulted with P.A. Hurricane Katrina (August 23, 2005) -- According to Wikipedia, Hurricane Katrina, was an extremely destructive and deadly tropical cyclone. It was one of the costliest natural disasters, and one of the five deadliest hurricanes in the history of the United States.

Ithaca, NY – Restore the Earth Foundation is restoring 1 million acres in the Mississippi River Basin, North America’s Amazon. After the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in 2010, Restore the Earth secured funding and implemented the very first marsh restoration using their Gulf SaverTM Bag initiative on oil soiled wetlands, in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries. Following this initiative, multiple Gulf Saver wetland restoration and reforestation projects have resulted in successful Louisiana wetland and wildlife habitat restoration in this area.

On August 17, National Nonprofit Day reminds us that each of these scenes is possible because of the work by capable men, women and organizations. National Nonprofit Day recognizes more than their primary altruistic goals such as awareness, research, and aid, but it also recognizes the added positive impacts nonprofits have on communities.
For example, following the recent U.S. recession, in 2012 the nonprofit sector provided 5.4% of the nation's entire GDP (gross domestic product), or $887.3 billion; continuously employing nurses, web developers, lawyers, computer engineers and more (sources: John Hopkins and Tactical Philanthropy Advisors reports).

As a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame funk superstar, Bootsy Collins (Parliament-Funkadelic and James Brown), joined Little Kids Rock’s Honorary Board when he visited a Jersey City LKR class and donated a bass guitar. Bootsy gave the kids a bass lesson and rapped with them while they played the blues. This is just one of the examples of how this mega Funkateer is making a difference with youth all over the world.
BCF’s “Say it Loud-An-Instrument-4-Every-Child” program is designed for the preservation and education of past, present and future program, to keep the youth motivated and educated through music, while learning how to become major players in the music arena. Just months before the highly publicized 1992 Civil Unrest, young Mark Ridley-Thomas was newly elected as City Councilman. During this time banks and stores were closing, along with the factories; social services were inefficient and under–resourced. Jobs disappeared in a deep recession, and there were long waits at down-sized public agencies. Teen centers and youth programs had closed; meanwhile, ran rapid in South LA.
These and other economic and social conditions drove community activists and advocates to speak out and demand accountability from their local government. After taking office, Ridley-Thomas' and his constituents now had access to a new set of tools to build a permanent vehicle for citizen leadership, establishing the Empowerment Congress. The Empowerment Congress created a structure to channel that activism and coordinate advocacy efforts. The Civil Unrest fires of 1992 further ignited the civic resolve of the constituents, pushing the Empowerment Congress into full gear, with a straightforward motto to Educate, Engage, Empower.
From its beginnings with a meager 30-40 community members meeting, now more than 20 years later the annual Empowerment Congress summit draws hundreds. Initially, much attention had been directed at police brutality issues, which dominated the political climate of the time. And yet, after over two decades, law enforcement and community issues still remains a focus, in addition to persistent racial and economic disparities in every aspect of the community environment – education, wages, housing, health. More than ever, the Empowerment Congress is needed to equip residents to put forth an agenda representing their interests.
January 1992 – Sherita Herring served as a presenter, with former Governor Gray Davis delivering the keynote address. Over 500 constituents, community leaders and city officials were in attendance.
Philanthropy Alliance Partners & Collaborations Making Global Change . . .
Paicines, CA -- Recently receiving a $60,000 grant, the Stork Peterkin Foundation (Wild Farmers Project) is making a difference in Northern California. Their mission is to preserve, protect, and restore, wildlife and habitat; while bringing greater understanding of the connection, and the interaction necessary, for the well-being and sustainability of communities, the wilderness and its inhabitants.
As just one of their several projects, in collaboration with Ryan O'Dell, Ecological Specialist, Rare Native Wildflower Specialist, Botanist, Forensic Bonaist, Soils Scientist, Paleontologist from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. SPIF’s Wild Farmer’s project led a wildflower walk through a preserve in Northern CA.

Hudson, FL -- In addition to the over 900,000 police officers nation-wide, that are sworn to protect and serve, there are thousands of first responders (firefighters, emergency medical technicians/paramedics), that also risk and sometimes lose their lives every year.
Of the 2,977 victims killed in the September 11 attacks, 411 were emergency workers in New York who responded to the World Trade Center (343 firefighters including a chaplain and two paramedics); 37 police officers of Port Authority of NY and NJ Police Departments); 23 police officers of the NYPD; and 8 emergency medical technicians and paramedics from private emergency medical services.
Turning tragedy into triumph, Chrissy Johnson has formed the Off-Road United Foundation, Inc. (ORU). Through ORU’s primary program, Krawl’n for the Fallen, they have aided the families of fallen first responders by helping them to heal and rebuild their lives; while also offering additional services to shape strong municipal alliances, empower youth, and bridge the gap between law enforcement and communities.
