Attention Local Artists . . .

Please join us as we memorialize on canvas, the Gentle Giant Oak Tree that has stoically stood on the land of my ancestors for more than 200 years (according to the forestry department).

The Oak tree is one of the most beloved trees in the world. Oak is often associated with honor, nobility, and wisdom.   Known to easily surpass 300 years of age the oak is a living legend representing all that is true, wholesome, stable, and noble.

Proudly greeting those that come and go, I love this old man (the Oak), but sadly it appears we may have to cut him down!  I not only cherish him for the beauty and noble branches that are reaching toward the heavens, but also for the secrets and memories he’s preserved.  As my descendants sat sheltered under the shade of his enormity, he silently heard the hopes, dreams and sorrows of my Canady ancestors that worked tirelessly on this small mountain, once known as Canady Hill.

Though he stands solidly grounded at the foundation,

he’s now hollow through the core of the trunk, while

also revealing a massive crack that’s slowly working its

way down the hard wood of this enduring behemoth.

To honor its unwavering strength, we’re hosting a

“Painting of the Oak” event.  The goal of this

commemorative occasion is to memorialize this historic

tree on canvas, from the eyes of the artist.

Inviting youth and adults, whether you’re an advanced

artist, or someone that would just like to take part in

this monumental occasion, you’re invited to join us

for fun, food and festivities.
