The City of Menifee and Philanthropy Alliance Present Romancing the West Documentary Concert
Date/Location: Sunday, August 11th, 6:30 pm
City Multi-Purpose Building, 68 North Mustang, Menifee, AR 72108
In its 6thyear of touring across the country in museums, concert series, and theaters, don’t miss this historic, first-ever appearance in the state of Arkansas! Join the City of Menifee and Philanthropy Alliance Foundation as they present Romancing the West, where a Historic Documentary meets live concert performances, featuring Co-Producers and performers, Singer/songwriter Christina Lynn Martin and Cowboy Poet and Balladeer, Butch Martin. They will be joined by the Menifee Community Choir of local vocalists, and hometown singer/songwriter Townsend.
This unique concert tells the human story of over 250 years of the people of the American West, through their trials, tribulations and triumphs, while celebrating their diverse cultures, lives and legacy’s.
The epic story of Western Expansionism is told in historic photographs, rare film, video, live poetry and original music, written by Christina – songs about the West, including “City of Roses” (Portland), “Columbia” (Columbia River) and “Oh Oregon”, written for the 150thbirthday of Oregon, and others. Butch recites master poems of the old West like, “The Ballad of William Sycamore” and “Laska”. As the show moves from the old West into the modern West, the music ranges from traditional Western, folk/Celtic, to jazz, big band, pop/rock and gospel.
The overarching theme of the journey is to explore the historic fight for fairness, freedom and opportunity in the American West, while reflecting on how the West influenced the National conversation in regard to human rights. Within the show, is a moving tribute to veterans, and a majestic musical tribute to National Parks.
Butch and Christina’s Mission continues to be – to foster love and respect for our fellow man and the love of this land, by telling the sometimes painful story of Western Expansionism, and celebrating the diverse cultures, whose stories continue to inform and inspire our Nation and our world.
In their real lives, the Martins almost replicate the old west, as they make their home in a log cabin in Applegate Valley at Cougar Mountain Ranch in Oregon, surrounded by their kids and grandkids. In this picturesque environment is where they also record their weekly radio show, Whittler’s Corner, and its history segment “Time Travels through the American West”.
